Mel Brooks to get DVD boxed set

NEW YORK (TheWrap) - "Never underestimate the power of the Schwartz!"

So says Shout Factory, which is teaming up with legendary funnyman Mel Brooks to produce a DVD box set celebrating the influential writer-director's lengthy career.

Brooks, who won an Oscar for his screenplay for "The Producers" and is responsible for more than a few legendary comedies including "Blazing Saddles," "Young Frankenstein" and "Spaceballs" -- from which the opening quote is cribbed -- will be heavily involved in the retrospective.

Production on "The History of Mel Brooks, Part 1" begins in July, and the boxed set is slated to be released in spring 2012.

"As I so boldly wrote in 'The Producers,' 'when you got it, flaunt it.' Well, I got it, and Shout Factory is going to flaunt it," the 85-year-old Brooks crowed in a statement announcing the project.
