Women in power positions seem a nightmare to some men and in Hollywood it's become a film cliche to show dominant women as psychotic. Jennifer Aniston recently revealed she loved her unapologetic, dominance in "Horrible Bosses," playing an oversexed and under-sympathetic boss with no boundaries.
During a July 4, 2011 interview on "Chelsea Lately" to promote the film, Aniston said, "I enjoyed it thoroughly. I really really really did. It was probably one of the most fun roles I've ever had." She later agreed with host Chelsea Handler's comment, "It's nice to be abusive to men." Aniston and Handler are not the only ladies to agree with that philosophy. Films are rife with women who are in control to the detriment of the men around them.
Mrs. Robinson - "The Graduate," Anne Bankcroft
Sex is one weapon Mrs. Robinson knows how to wield expertly. In what could easily be one of the most adroit seductions ever, Benjamin, a jumpy, young college grad, says, "Mrs. Robinson, you're trying to seduce me." After feigning the opposite, she nonchalantly says, "Would you like me to seduce you?" The gentleman doth protest too much and eventually the lady gets what she wants.
Annie Wilkes - "Misery," Kathy Bates
If being a devoted fan is crazy then Kathy Bates is willing to be hauled off to the loony bin. In one of the most memorable scenes in movie history Bates, as Annie Wilkes, takes a sledgehammer to her favorite author's legs just so she can have the pleasure of nursing him back to health. Now that is devotion and domination.
Catherine Tramell - "Basic Instinct," Sharon Stone
Catherine Tramell has a killer instinct in bedding men and Sharon Stone played this cool, omni-sexual, murder novelist to perfection. The leg cross heard around the world gave us a look at Catherine's preference for going commando and her expert use of sexual power. Also her sharp tongue ("What are you gonna do? Charge me with smoking?") and even sharper ice pick keeps Detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas) in line and beneath her in bed.
Nurse Ratched - "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest," Louise Fletcher
R.P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) finds his usual manipulation and rebellion are no match for the indomitably cruel Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher). His delusions of dominating the mental institution he is sent to after pretending to go mad in jail are dashed. When Mc Murphy refuses medication Ratched calmly states, "If Mr. McMurphy doesn't want to take his medication orally, I'm sure we can arrange that he can have it some other way. But I don't think that he would like it." It's Nurse Ratched who proves she is the force to be reckoned with.
Meredith Johnson - "Disclosure," Demi Moore
Sexual harassment at work is usually considered a man's game, but in this scenario the roles are reversed. Meredith Johnson (Demi Moore) keeps Tom Sanders (Michael Douglas) after work for some business that turns into forced pleasure. Meredith won't take no for an answer and Tom can't seem to pry his diminutive boss off of his private business. If no means yes, then Meredith is reading Tom's signals right. Meredith's tacky porn lines like, "Let's get down to business" are only topped by her rebuttal when accused of harassment, "Haven't you ever said no and meant yes...?"
